The ZTM orders 132 solar ticket machines

Publication date: 15.03.2023

The Metropolitan Transport Authority (ZTM) will nearly double the number of ticket machines. The newly ordered machines will enable passengers e.g. to buy all paper and electronic tickets, to supply the account with electronic money, or to learn the tariff.

The ZTM has today invited tenders for ‘Electronic systems of tickets sales in the area of the Upper-Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis (GZM)’. The name of procurement covers 132 solar ticket machines.
This project finalisation will double the number of ticket machines. This solution is good in many respects. Firstly, these are machines operating round-the-clock, 7 days a week. Secondly, this is a financially effective solution, because due to the fact, that these are solar machines, we avoid costs related for example to the necessity of construction and maintenance of electricity connections. Thirdly, they will be flexible, i.e. their possible relocation will not create major problems. Fourthly, the machines will be friendly for persons with disabilities. The screen, coin slots, cards reader, ticket receipt openings, will be situated at a height between 70 and 120 cm. This is important e.g. for persons moving on wheelchairs. And it is also important, that foreigners will be capable of using the ticket machines, because English, German, and Ukrainian languages will be implemented.

The newly ordered solar ticket machines will have definitely more functionalities, than their previously installed versions. In the case of new machines it will be possible to buy all paper and electronic tickets, and to pay for them by a payment card and BLIK, as well as by coins. In addition, the machines will enable e.g. to supply the account with electronic money, to learn the tariff, or to check own data in the system.

Solar machines are eco

Among all advantages of new machines it is worth drawing attention to one more aspect: ecology.
The solar ticket machines will be using only ‘clean energy’, acquired from photovoltaic panels situated on the top. Because of built-in batteries they will operate also on non-sunny days and at night.

The date and precise location of ticket machines are not known, yet

The transport organiser right now does not indicate potential dates of new machines commissioning. That will depend on the date of the bidding procedure completion and of signing the contract with the contractor. With respect to ticket machines location it is known that two criteria will be considered: these will be locations, where the passenger traffic volume is the highest, and the tickets availability low. The estimate of the procurement gross worth, taking into account the machines delivery, installation, and commissioning, their integration with the IT system, and the 10-year maintenance, is approx. PLN 16 million.

In the GZM area 135 ticket machines are operating now, which sell tickets for the ZTM urban transport. Their locations are shown on the website, in the ‘Buy ticket or ŚKUP’ tab. After the project finalisation the number of machines will be nearly doubled – it will increase to 267.
