A new edition of transport classes started for children from the area of the Upper-Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis. The ZTM employees and Police officers made the youngest aware, what is the public transport, how to use it, and how it affects the natural environment. In addition, representatives of the ZTM and of other public institutions participate in cyclical meetings with residents, entitled ‘Preventive Road Voice’, which are organised by the City Police Headquarters in Katowice.

Transport lessons at schools

The ZTM, in cooperation with the City Police Headquarters in Katowice, has started with a new edition of transport classes for children from classes II - III of primary schools from the area of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. As a result of meetings with the transport organiser employees and Police officers, the youngest learn the most important rules of safe travelling by the urban transport and of moving on the road. Because of that children become more conscious and more responsible passengers and participants of the road traffic. During lessons, through a play, the youngest learn the proper behaviour in urban transport vehicles and shape their mobility attitudes. Obviously, the meetings are not short of small gifts given to children.

Meetings with residents in the Katowice city centre

Transport lessons are not the only activity promoting the public transport and at the same time directed towards the safety improvement. On the 17th of February the first, this year, event in the campaign ‘Preventive Road Voice’ took place. The meeting provided opportunities to talk to residents about safety, among other things in the urban transport. Passengers, participating in quizzes and plays, could remind themselves of what they should remember when travelling by buses, trams, and trolleybuses, and what to do, to take care not only of themselves, but also of fellow-passengers. The attractions awaiting residents included questions based on the ‘Transport Regulations’, a police device measuring the response time, and ‘alco-goggles’ of the Inspectorate of Road Transport, which illustrate problems with coordination under the influence of alcohol. Participants were receiving prizes in kind, including reflectors.

The cyclical meetings under the ‘Preventive Road Voice’ are a common campaign of the Katowice Police, the Metropolitan Transport Authority, Voivodeship Road Traffic Centre, Municipal Guards, Voivodship Inspectorate of Road Traffic, the Regional Headquarters of the Railway Police, ‘Ratujemy (We Save) +’ Association, and the Voivodeship Police Headquarters.
