Faster intervention and repair. The ZTM has developed an inventive program

Publication date: 02.06.2023

The Metropolitan Transport Authority (ZTM), as the first urban transport organiser in the country, has developed a tool, which comprehensively facilitates the management of the stops infrastructure. This is good information, primarily for the passengers, because due to the novel program the care of urban transport stops and the updating of timetables situated there become much easier.

The advantages include the acceleration of the work and the cost cutting

A modern program facilitates the management of the stops infrastructure. Because of it the ZTM staff will be capable of quickly and remotely order to the external field services the tasks related to the urban transport stops, and to control their performance afterwards. That includes such matters as displaying new timetables, verifying the condition and aesthetics of the urban transport stops, putting in a windowpane in the shelter, or placing stickers with a QR code. Because all of that is carried out in an automated and remote way, and without using additional tools, such operations are planned and implemented faster. In addition, the costs are reduced. The ZTM employees, from the desktop level and in a more effective way, can assign the performance of specific operations to the selected stops. Next, equally fast and remotely, they can control all of that. For passengers this means, e.g., the minimisation of the risk that the current timetable is missing at a stop or a shorter time of the shelter repair. While for us and for municipalities, that means financial savings.

Apart from the management of the work related to the stops infrastructure, the software enables comprehensive preparation of reports, broken down to municipalities, or to the operations performed, not performed, and performed improperly. In addition, the software accelerates the flow of documents, enables to generate summaries comprising, for example, the timeliness of the performed work, and facilitates keeping a register of tasks.

A giant step and benefits for the passengers

The software development for the ZTM means an important step towards the improvement in the processes related to the maintaining of stops and ensuring that the current information is provided there. This results from a few reasons, but one of the most important of them is the scale of the urban transport organiser’s operations. Let us remind that the ZTM serves, a record on the country scale, approx. 7,000 stops in 57 municipalities, in the area of which it was necessary to exchange 80,000 timetables in 2022. Having such a novel solution available, which automates the management of so extensive infrastructure, it is not only a facility for the ZTM staff, but also, and first of all, will provide benefits to the passengers. The tool improves the performance of tasks connected with the maintenance of stops. Because of the automation all the processes have been linked, and the performance of one action causes the updating of other databases. Thereby we do not need so much time to enter the information to many files and systems. In addition, the system allows to monitor and approve the progress of operations at the stops infrastructure in real time. The benefits from our implementation of this novel tool will be enjoyed by the travellers. The transport organiser will be capable of intervening faster, e.g., in the case of a shelter damage or the necessity of filling in the current timetables

The program was developed by the ZTM in cooperation with the Genesis Mobo company. It is named Time4Bus.
