TRAFFIC CHANGES AT THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN ŚWIĘTOCHŁOWICE AND CHORZÓW

Publication date: 25.01.2023

At the beginning of the next week the tram track reconstruction will start in Katowicka street in Świętochłowice. The investment project will result in the improved comfort of travel and also vibrations and noise emitted by the passing trams will be reduced. For the period of works the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ZTM) has to introduce changes in the operation of bus and tram transport. They will take effect on the 30th of January and will comprise altogether 5 bus lines and 4 tram lines, which routes are going through Bytom, Chorzów, Gliwice, Katowice, Ruda Śląska, and Zabrze.

The works will be carried out on a fragment of Katowicka street in Świętochłowice, close to the boundary with Chorzów Batory, Their scope will comprise the reconstruction of the tram track together with the contact lines, and the reconstruction of the underground and road infrastructure. The investment project will be implemented with the use of modern technologies, which allow for substantial reduction of vibrations and noise emitted by the passing trams, and the roadway and pavements will receive smooth surfacing.

However, before the residents of Świętochłowice and passengers of the urban transport will be capable of using new facilities, everybody will have to become accustomed to the new traffic organisation. Bus routes of lines 6, 7, 7N, and 23 must be adapted to the scope and dates of repair and modernisation works. In addition, the operation of tram line 7 will be suspended.

To minimise the inconveniences the ZTM will e.g. introduce a new timetable of tram line 17, in which the frequency of connections will be increased. Moreover, the urban transport organiser will start substitute bus transport on the Chorzów Batory Zajezdnia - Świętochłowice Mijanka route. Vehicles will be marked as T -7.

Detailed information describing the changes in the urban transport operation, together with the map illustrating the new traffic organisation, has been published on the ZTM website, in the News – Messages tab. This information should be learned by residents of not only Świętochłowice, but also of Bytom, Chorzów, Gliwice, Katowice, Ruda Śląska, and Zabrze, through which the buses and trams comprised by modifications are running.
