A new minibus line in Katowice

Publication date: 15.03.2024

Already on the 25th of March the City of Katowice in cooperation with the metropolitan ZTM will start a new minibus line in Katowice. This will be line 989. The service of those parts of city districts, which so far were so-called white spots in the urban transport network, will be its main advantage. Because of the introduction of the new line the offer for the southern districts of Katowice, that is Podlesie, Zarzecze, and Kostuchna, will be supplemented.

Line 989 will substantially expand the possibilities of travelling by the public transport through the southern districts of Katowice. It will be served by minibuses due to the infrastructure. Because of the new line it will be easier to get to the Katowice Podlesie railway station, schools, churches, or cemeteries. It will also ensure a possibility of transfers to the already operating bus lines – says Mr Marcin Krupa, the Mayor of Katowice.

In the first stage of the operation, line 989 will start its route in the Kopaniny district, from Kaskady street, and it will continue through Zarzecze and Podlesie to Kostuchna, ensuring access to the public transport for a dynamically developing area of the Podlesie district in rides to its centre, Katowice Podlesie railway station, the church, the parish cemetery, the post office, and also connections with a part of Kostuchna district. From the passenger’s point of view the connection by line 989 with the aforementioned Katowice Podlesie railway station is very attractive; due to such a solution the persons, who will be willing to get directly from Podlesie to the city centre of Katowice, will be able to do it by train. This also opens a possibility of travelling in other directions, depending on the transport offer of the railway carriers.

In the second stage, the line will be running to the Transfer Centre in Katowice Brynów, including Wieżowa street in its service. Such a variant of the line will allow to complement the existing transport offer and will open the southern districts of Katowice to new travel directions. The connection of this line with the Transfer Centre in Brynów will enable passengers to transfer to buses and trams running in various directions, including the city centre of Katowice. Buses of lines 9, 10, 11, 13, 29, 45, 51, 296, 297, 297N, 688, 689, 913, 937, and M12, as well as trams of lines 6, 14, 16, and 46, operate now from the Transfer Centre. As one can see, this will provide a number of possibilities and a choice of various lines and travel routes, when line 989 will extend its route to Brynów.
