New Traffic Management Centre, new benefits for passengers

Publication date: 14.06.2019

Newly established Traffic Management Centre of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ZTM) has officially started its operations. Benefits resulting from the performed investments will be enjoyed primarily by passengers, but also by drivers and employees of the transport organiser. Improvements will include the flow of information and the organisation of vehicles traffic.

The process of the ZTM Traffic Management Centre establishment started in March. The installation of screens and their integration with previously used systems completed the investment process. The new unit was officially opened on 13 June. The ZTM employees have already access to a system of tools, which allows them to observe on large screens current positions of more than 1000 vehicles - buses, trams, and trolleybuses. Because of this solution it is possible, among other things, to provide and to publish faster the information about traffic congestions.

In accordance with the information provided by representatives of the transport organiser in the area of the Upper Silesian - Zagłębie Metropolis the travellers can count on two significant changes. Firstly, the hotline operates now 24 hours a days, 7 days a week. Passengers can obtain or obtain faster than so far the expected information, e.g. related to the precise position of a specific bus or its possible delay, and also to obtain all necessary information related to the transport operation, binding tariffs, etc. Secondly, the ZTM employees have now available tools, which will allow to verify the transport work performed by individual operators in more detail, in the future to implement actions resulting in the improvement in the quality of services provided by them, and also in extreme cases - to appropriately respond to the most troublesome road incidents.

Passengers will enjoy benefits from the introduced changes inter alia due to the purchase by the ZTM of six seamless screens. Today they create one wall-screen with 3.7 m x 1.4 m dimensions and fulfil an important auxiliary function. The newly purchased equipment was integrated with the systems available so far, used previously at the KZK GOP and MZK Tychy.
